No-Bake Chocolate Fruit Tart

I made this tart for the first time a little less than a year ago. The berries were starting to ripen on the bushes in the backyard and I was looking for excuses to eat more of them. After making a few vanilla fruit tarts, I decided I needed to try something a little richer and ended up making this chocolate fruit tart. It was a big hit and my family ate the whole thing in one night. About a week later, they asked me to make it again and a new family recipe was adopted. I've been waiting for berry season to roll around so I could make this again, and I'm so happy it's finally here! It's easy to make and well worth any amount of time spent on it.

The ingredients you'll need are:

  • Oreos
  • Butter
  • Heavy Cream
  • Semisweet Chocolate Chips

The Crust

The first thing you'll want to do when making this tart is prepare your crust. It's a simple oreo cookie crust that requires about 32 crushed oreos and 1/2 cup of unsalted butter. I prefer to use store brand sandwich cookies because they are cheaper than name brand Oreos and it doesn't make a difference in the flavor of the tart.
First, crush the oreos into crumbs. You can use a food processor or use what I like to call the "College Student" method and crush them with a cup, water bottle, or other item you have available.

Next, you'll melt the butter. After the butter is melted, pour it into the bowl of crushed oreos and stir them together with a fork until all of the oreo crumbs are moistened. When you are satisifed, put it in your tart pan and pat it down. I find it most handy to use the bottom of a measuring cup to pat the crust into place.

Once your crust is finished, stick it in the fridge and allow it to sit for at least two hours. This sitting time allows the crust to solidify.

The Filling

The filling is the fun part. For the chocolate filling, you'll only need two ingredients...which is much easier than a traditional tart! You'll need 1 cup of heavy cream and 12 oz of dark chocolate or semisweet chocolate chips. If you want a higher quality tart, you can opt to use a bar rather than chocolate chips. First, heat up the cream on the stovetop. Heat it on medium-heat until there are small bubbles on the outside. Don't let it warm up long enough to boil. Once the bubbles have formed, pour it in a bowl over the chocolate chips. Let it sit for 1-2 minutes so the chocolate chips have time to melt.

After letting the chocolate and cream sit, stir it with a fork until it is fully combined. It should be creamy and a bit thick.

Putting it All Together

To finish it off, pour the filling into the oreo crust. Allow it to continue to sit in the fridge for the remainder of the three hours. The filling and the crust will both set up.

When the tart is almost completely set, slice your choice of berries. This time, I used blueberries and strawberries. However, blackberries and raspberries are great option as well. I prefer to use bright-colored berries to contrast against the dark color of the chocolate. You can also choose to sprinkle powdered sugar on top to add a bit more contrast to your tart. After you've placed the berries, you're done! You can just to take the tart out of the pan and place it on a plate or leave it in the pan. Either way, enjoy the summery tastes of berries combined with the rich chocolate!
